明初出现的《回回药方》是唐中叶西方伊斯兰医药传入中国后中国人编撰的一部伊斯兰医药百科全书。原书共36卷，现仅存残本4卷。本书除将4卷全部影印外，并对其中的医药名词进行了详细考释；其中特别对回回医药的渊源、古代中国与伊斯兰世界的医学交流、中国各民族文化的交流与融合都提出了独到的见解。本书对古代中外文化交流史和中国医学发展史的研究，都有重要参考价值。为了说明《回回药方》形成的时代背景和医学特色，有必要首先对明以前伊斯兰医学束傅的情形作一简要的回顾。
